Scouts, Leadership, and Community Service
As a member of the Arlington MA Scouts Troop 306 since middle school, I had the opportunity to learn many skills for life, and also about leadership. Having the opportunity to be a scout has been an excellent experience for me. I aged out of Scouts BSA, as a Life Scout. During my time with my Trip, I was a Patrol Leader, and I was the Senior Patrol leader in 2021. I participated in camping trips such as the Klondike Derby, Turkey Roast, Bumpkin Island Trip, Summer Camps in New Hampshire, Dutch Oven Cook-Off, West Point Camporee, etc. I participated in a number of community service projects such as Restoration Projects, Conservation Projects, Food drives, and the Teen Drive: As scouts we collected or purchased things that teenagers who are confronting challenging circumstances (and are receiving support by the Department of Social Services) might need or enjoy. As a Troop, we got together to gather things, and to organize gift bags that are given to about 100 teenagers during Christmas time! I proposed and led projects such as the first Inter-generational Virtual Campfire co-organized by Troop 306 and the Arlington Council on Aging. I proposed and hosted this event that took place this June 10th 2021. Kristine Sha, Arlington Council on Aging's Executive director, kindly sent a message the following day stating that the Virtual Campfire had been "fantastic", and she would like to plan more joint activities. |
